Wauchope is an old Timber town where ‘red gold’ was milled and shipped to Sydney and beyond. Now the red cedars are all gone, but the hinterland is a fertile food bowl.
Farmers of all descriptions leave their farms in the hills and valleys once a week to bring produce to town, pay their bills, go to the bank, stock up on farm and food supplies, connect with friends etc. And around a traditional rural town has grown a large community of young families and retirees drawn to its peaceful nature, nearness to nature and sense of community.
The Hastings region is also rich with makers and bakers who turn farm fresh produce into delicious jams, spreads, cakes, dips and more. Artisans who turn churn fresh milk into cheeses, yoghurts, chocolates, ice cream etc. Creatives who craft candles, fleece into felt and yarn and then into beanies, hats and other such handmade wonders.
A select few gather once a month, come rain, hail or shine at Wauchope Showground.
